6-21-06 Psalms 4:7

Psalms 4:7 (KJ21)
Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time when their corn and wine increased.

Psalms 4:7 (NAS)
Thou hast put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine abound.

Psalms 4:7 (NIVUS)
You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound.

Psalms 4:7 (NLT)
You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and wine.

Do you know anybody who is not happy? Of course, everyone goes through difficult periods, in which happiness is fleeting, but some people live in a constant state of sadness. These people are constantly searching for something to give them joy.

Since the beginning of time, men have set aside certain times to celebrate. Scheduled holidays provide opportunities to rejoice. Harvest season in many societies is one of these times. People are filled with gladness when their grain increases, for what they have planted has grown and produced abundantly. The yield is so numerous that they know they will have more than enough to get them through until the next harvest. From their grapes they have new fresh juice and sweet wine. They know that they are not looking at poverty and no one will seize their lands.

If men can find joy and gladness in this mere temporal security, how much more should you have in the eternal security that you have in the Lord? Almighty God gives you more pleasure than anything or anyone else. In Him your heart is full.
