Whose Shoes Do You Fill?

This past Sunday, my senior pastor announced that he would be retiring in February. He has pastored my church for more than 50 years and the retirement is well deserved. It was also announced that our former music/associate pastor would become the senior pastor. This also is well deserved since he has been faithful at the church for over 25 years. He may be asking himself if he can fill our senior pastor's shoes, but in reality he cannot fill those or any other shoes, except his own.

Likewise, if you are facing a new position, you do not need to worry about filling the shoes of your predecessor. Even if you wear the same size, his/her shoes will not fit your feet exactly the same. God created us all different and unique. We do not have to do everything exactly alike. The only thing that God requires of us is to do the best that we can do and if we feel inadequate, we need to turn to Him for help. He told us that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

Therefore, every morning seek the Lord and His strength and wisdom for your day. Then put on your own shoes and they will carry you through every task and circumstance that you encounter. Wearing your own shoes you can walk, run, or even hop, skip, and jump with no fear, for your shoes are a perfect fit.
