10-25-06 Psalms 11:1-3

Psalms 11:1-3 (KJ21)
(To the chief musician: A Psalm of David.)
In the LORD I put my trust; how say ye to my soul, "Flee as a bird to your mountain, for lo, the wicked bend their bow and make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart; if the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Psalms 11:1-3 (NAS)
(For the choir director. A Psalm of David.)
In the LORD I take refuge; How can you say to my soul, "Flee as a bird to your mountain; For, behold, the wicked bend the bow, They make ready their arrow upon the string, To shoot in darkness at the upright in heart. If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?

Psalms 11:1-3 (NIVUS)
(For the director of music. Of David.)
In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your mountain. For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Psalms 11:1-3 (NLT)
(For the choir director: A psalm of David)
I trust in the LORD for protection. So why do you say to me, "Fly to the mountains for safety! The wicked are stringing their bows and setting their arrows in the bowstrings. They shoot from the shadows at those who do right. The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?

David, the beloved King of Israel, was also beloved of the Jehovah the Lord. He understood and accepted the love of God. Through his life and experiences, you can learn and grow in your own relationship with the Lord.

Like David, you should learn to flee to Adonai the Lord for protection. He is a refuge for those who confide in and trust in God. He is your confidence and your security. Therefore, when your soul is cast down and afraid, when you feel like a defenseless little bird, you should fly to the mountain, where you can take refuge. There you will disappear from sight of your enemies and you will be safe.

Using all of their strength, the wicked may bend their bows against you. Because of their cruelty and severity, they may prepare their arrows, intending to pierce and wound you, since you are upright and your heart is centered on Almighty God. The wicked see you walking in the light on a straight path that is pleasant and prosperous. They, however, are of the darkness and desire to shoot those who are of the light. But you should not let their evil desires destroy your foundation of trust in Jehovah. He remains your purpose and moral support. The Lord has set and appointed you to prosper. He has cleansed and made you right, so that your enemies cannot pull you down and break you in pieces. They cannot ruin or overthrow you, for you practice your faith and have set your hope in the Most High God.
