5-2-07 Galatians 5:13

Galatians 5:13 (NAS)
For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Galatians 5:13 (NIVUS)
You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.

Galatians 5:13 (Philips)
It is to freedom that you have been called, my brothers. Only be careful that freedom does not become mere opportunity for your lower nature. You should be free to serve each other in love.

You are part of a holy brotherhood of believers, born of the same Father, and united to them in a bond of affection. You were called and invited to join this brotherhood. The Lord called out your name on purpose, for He has a very special plan for your life. As your superior, He commands you with His word so that you carry out all of the duties that He requires of you.

But there is freedom in His commands. You have the liberty and freedom to live as you should, not to live as you please. You are no longer bound by the Mosaic Law, your old fleshly nature, or even by the devices of the enemy.

You are free to come and go as you please, but you must not use your liberty as a place of attack against anyone else, especially your brothers. Do not impulsively act hostilely or violently, giving into the fleshly, sinful passions of the old nature. Do not let your freedom separate you and destroy the fellowship that you enjoy with your brothers. Instead continue to abide in brotherly love and affection, always extending good will to everyone. Become a slave to the family of God, serving everyone by disregarding your own interests for the interests and concerns of others.

Walk in the steps of your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who humbled Himself and took on the form of a servant. As He has served you with His life, you must serve others. This is true freedom!
