8-1-06 Psalms 9:5

Psalms 9:5 (KJ21)
Thou hast rebuked the heathen, Thou hast destroyed the wicked; Thou hast blotted out their name for ever and ever.

Psalms 9:5 (NAS)
Thou hast rebuked the nations; Thou hast destroyed the wicked; Thou hast blotted out their name forever and ever.

Psalms 9:5 (NIVUS)
You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name for ever and ever.

Psalms 9:5 (NLT)
You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have wiped out their names forever.

You have probably heard it said that you do not want to get on the bad side of someone. This is especially true of the Lord God Almighty. Those peoples and nations who turn their backs on the Lord can expect to be chided, rebuked, and reproved by the Most High.

Those who are wicked and ungodly can look forward to an even more severe fate, for the Lord will break and destroy them. They have wandered away from the right path and are lost. For them there is no escape and no way to flee. They will be undone and perish. The Lord will even erase their names. Everything that points to their existence will be blotted out for eternity. They have no future for they will be utterly wiped away.

If you put your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and believe what He did for you on the cross, then your name will be written in the Lamb's book of life. It will not be blotted out, but will remain there eternally. Even though you once were lost, you have found the way of escape in the Lord. Instead of turning your back on the Almighty, you have fled to Him for refuge. You, therefore, will continually advance and prosper. Life and not death is your portion
