4-11-08 Deuteronomy 20:10, 11 First Offer Terms of Peace

Deuteronomy 20:10, 11 (NAS)
When you approach a city to fight against it, you shall offer it terms of peace. And it shall come about, if it agrees to make peace with you and opens to you, then it shall be that all the people who are found in it shall become your forced labor and shall serve you.
Deuteronomy 20:10, 11 (NLT)
As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor.

Sometimes in your relationships with others, you approach them in the attack mode. However, when you come near to them, check to see if they are guarded and not open because of previous terror or anguish. It may take time to for them to open up and lay themselves bare to exposure. Try not engage in battle right away. Instead extend an invitation of peace, friendship, and tranquility.

You may find that they will answer you favorably. They will open up, as they believe they can be free with you. The peace that you sow will be returned to you in kind. You will find a completeness and wholeness in your relationships that you never experienced before. You will have safety and soundness that you never thought possible.

When you enter into a covenant of peace with others, you will notice that restoration and reward follows. The time you spend together will be wholesome and good; you need not fear injury. You will be secure in the mutual benefit that you give each other. These peaceful relationships will become as tributaries that branch off of the main river. You will feed each and draw strength and peace from each other. You will also learn to work for and with each. You will serve one another in the love of God.
