Proverbs 3: 31, 32 (NIVUS)
Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways, for the LORD detests a perverse man but takes the upright into his confidence
Proverbs 3: 31, 32 (NLT)
Do not envy violent people; don’t copy their ways. Such wicked people are an abomination to the LORD, but he offers his friendship to the godly.
When you look at how some people live their lives, you might be tempted to be jealous and envious. Many people seem to gain from unethical or illegal practices. Some mere mortals seem to get ahead through violence, oppression, and injustice. These do wrong and maltreat their fellow man, seemingly without any qualms or regrets.
You, however, have been called to a higher standard and should not envy these evil-doers. In fact, Jehovah your Lord encourages you not to choose that path. You should not even try this course of life, for Almighty God looks upon these perverse men as disgusting and abhorrent. Adonai actually loathes and detests them. To Him they are abominations.
Jehovah the Lord wants to share an intimate relationship with you, for He is well-pleased with you. You are a member of His secret company and someone with whom He can deliberate. He loves to sit down together with you, so that He can counsel and instruct you. Therefore, it is important that you choose the right way and the path that leads straight to His throne. This is the most pleasant and prosperous road that you can take. On it you will be highly esteemed.
